MindJet Lab is going to announce a MindManager Add-In for Word 2007 today. It allows you to use Word 2007 to edit MindManager Maps.
To create the Word Doc (.docm file, m for macros) you do not need Office 2007 installed.
To edit the map in Word you do not need MindManager installed.
It creates a tab in the Ribbon Bar and lets you see an image of the original map, set the start/stop dates and see map markers, emoticons, comments, etc…
There are many cool features, including the ability to sync topics from document back with the original map and include an image repository. You really need to watch the demo video to get a good idea of all the things they thought of.
The official announcement will be posted on the MindJet Blog today.
Now for my experience…
I like it. It’s simple, effective, and works great. I’m impressed.
I can’t wait to share more of my maps with co-workers. Of course no one else has Word 2007 and it will be years before it is a “corporate standard”, but I can get them to convert to 2007 much easier than to MindManager.
The Gyronix ResultManager’s “Dashboard” maps come across very nice. Especially the Committed Next Actions and Deadlines I’ll Accomplish (which contains the date as the topic)
The two minor improvements I would like to see…
Option in the Export to set Outline options, like bullets and indenting.
MS Word – Ability to Print the Outline View. This may be possible, but I don’t know how. This is by far the best view of the imported document.
In order to keep OneNotePowerToys.com more “pure”, Sid and I created NoteTalkers.com to discuss all the note taking applications we use. While trying to decide on a domain name, I bought OneNote2006.com (before the “Office 2007″ announcement) and haven’t done anything with it.
Prompted in part by Slacker Manager’s “Free For All Friday” and OneNote Guy’s “The OneNote Community” posts, I have installed WordPress and opened it up so everyone who registers is an Author.
Hopefully this will allow the OneNote Community a common place to post, so go register and start posting all your vast knowledge of OneNote for others to read.
Unfortunately the FileMaker Campus Productivity Kit did not pass my initial usability testing. While it may be great for those familiar with FileMaker Pro, I found the following items to be barriers to my readiness to adopt this program…
Lack of Tab Indenting in the Notes. Goes to next field instead.
Non-standard keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl- switches views, Ctrl-Shift- does the standard text formatting, like Bold and Underline.)
Lack of toolbars. Especially Text and Navigation.
Lack of conditional formatting in phone fields. Such as 1234567890 becoming (123) 456-7890, or at least forcing you to enter it in that format. Looks better and makes import/export to other apps easier.
Can’t select rows in table view and other limits on copy/paste functions.
To Do item status can only be Open or Closed. Also does not have subcategories.
Other differences in basic navigation. Such as no “X” to close most windows.
No install routine, just unzip to a folder. Makes install/remove easy, but means it won’t integrate into other menus and apps.
I would assume this Kit is an attempt to convert some people to FileMaker Pro, but I foresee it benefitting their existing customer base the most. They know the shortcuts/keystrokes and don’t have to adjust their habits. Plus they could integrate it into their existing databases to achieve a lot more functionality than just these five modules can provide.
Easily Organise GTD Labels
Labels are now structured into Contexts, Status, Projects and References; making it easier to read and use.
Labels can be applied much more rapidly than in standard Gmail. Quickly Review Outstanding Tasks
Quickly review outstanding GTD tasks that are over a few days old. Save Specialised Searches
Searches can be created and saved that enable precise queries over your GTD tasks. Send Myself Tasks and References
You can quickly compose Tasks and References and send them to your Inbox. Print Tasks to Cards
Select, sort and print tasks in 3×5 inch format so you can easily carry them.
Extra useful if you use the Hipster PDA!
EverNote released a Public Beta of 1.5 with the following features…
File Synchronization: With EverNote, you can synchronize your notes taken on different devices. For instance, you can synchronize your notes using a USB drive or a mapped network drive.
New Drag-and-drop functionality: New ability to drag-and-drop notes to select Categories, outside applications such as Instant Messenger, email, and EverNote databases. Ability to make note links everywhere!
New Clipping functionality: Outlook Clipper button and ability to call “Add to EverNote” command for Outlook and Thunderbird with a right-click.
Spellchecker: The new version of EverNote contains a powerful spellchecker from UltraLingua® that helps to avoid misspellings and typos in your notes.
New shortcuts: The new version of EverNote allows creating a new note by pressing the INS (Insert) key when focus is on the tape or ESC then INS when focus is on the note.

Office 2007 Beta 2 will get a Technical Refresh to provide upgrade support to the final version (RTM) and other improvements. It has to be installed on top of Beta 2.
Bloggers from Switzerland can get Mindjet for free until the 31st of August 2006 (more in German on SuperDeluxe). All you need is to describe your weblog, provide its URL, choose the language of the Mindjet MindManager in an e-mail you have to send at blog@mindjet.ch
I wonder if we have any Swiss readers who can benefit?
Eric Mack didn’t post the name of the tool or the company, but RobiNZ’s screenshots revealed it to be “GyroQ” by Gyronix. Which means it will work great with ResultsManager. Unfortunetly the product page has no information yet.
