BlogShares Hat-Trick

I’ve played BlogShares on and off for a while. I even have a OneNote Notebook named “Fun” which sadly only has one item… a link to my BlogShares Portfolio. Two days ago I came up with an idea to use it as a form of marketing/research. I upgraded my account to a paid account and started adding links to the sidebar with the blogs in my portfolio, then an interesting twist occurred to make it a Hat-Trick (hockey term for 3 goals).

Increase my BlogShares Portfolio and find lots of interesting sites

Hopefully by adding your sites early I’ll get in early and make lots of B$ money.

I’ve added several blogs to the system and gotten in on your blog stocks for dirt cheap.
As posted before, I made B$ 2.5M on a hostile takeover of StudentTabletPC.com last month.

One of the neat features is that it shows the incoming and outgoing links from a blog, so I have used it to find more RSS feeds.

Kickbacks

I have used my referral code in the links on this post. I have no idea what I get if you sign up, but hopefully something good.
Last night BlogShares announced a form of PayPerPost… By writing this post they will give me Chips. There are many uses for Chips, but I will use all mine to play the Chances game.

So even though I had the idea and started doing the work before the kickback program, it was incentive to write a post today. I have to admit that I’m not very good at BlogShares though. I don’t know how to use the advanced features like Ideas, Corporations, Artifacts, and such. I’m not even very good at trading stocks and tend to sell them off in small amounts to let others buy them and increase the volume/price. I’m sure there is a much better strategy, but it’s just a game. I thought my B$ 87M cash was a bunch, but compared to the leaders I am in the poor house. I don’t even have enough to buy a lottery ticket.
UPDATE: Island Dave gave me 1000 Chips!

Site News: Minor errors with Plugins, IE7, and FF2

Just like everyone else… we need to do some plugin updates and QA testing with IE7 and FF2.

The sites are working and rendering decently, but will have some minor bugs for the short term. No big deal, they needed to be updated/redesigned anyway!

Testing MS Live Writer

I have tried using blogging tools many times and have always gone back to the default wordpress interface. I am hoping Live Writer is better. I still don’t see an option for tags or categories. I guess some things you just have to do yourself.

Yesterday, I found out some news about a note-taking program. I am so tempted to write about it (its rare for me to have a scoop). But, as part of the agreement of finding it out, I am not allowed to talk about it…until Monday. So stay tuned.

In order to keep OneNotePowerToys.com more “pure”, Sid and I created NoteTalkers.com to discuss all the note taking applications we use. While trying to decide on a domain name, I bought OneNote2006.com (before the “Office 2007″ announcement) and haven’t done anything with it.

Prompted in part by Slacker Manager’s “Free For All Friday” and OneNote Guy’s “The OneNote Community” posts, I have installed WordPress and opened it up so everyone who registers is an Author.

Hopefully this will allow the OneNote Community a common place to post, so go register and start posting all your vast knowledge of OneNote for others to read.

Hello Everyone,

I haven’t posted in a while and just wanted to give some reason why and other updates. It’s that time of the semester again. I have midterms this week and have been very busy studying for them. Also, the contest kept me busier than I expected. Luckily, all of that will be over by this weekend or early next week and I will start writing more regularly.

Here are some of things I have on the back burner. A review of a Mind Mapping book by Chuck Frey, Microsoft Office Beta 2, updates on my note taking experiment, finishing my Writely review, and much more.

So, please stay tuned and I apologize for the delay.

My Summer 2006 Experiment

Summer is here and it is a brand new semester of classes for me. This semester I am taking CS 4001, Differential Equations, Circuits, and French (I hope). In addition, I am a teacher’s assistant for Digital Design Lab, Helping DramaTech by taking a Theater Production class, and taking a Guitar class for fun. All that in the summer? I know, I must be crazy.

This semester, I have decided to try other note taking programs and collaboration tools. I have tried GoBinder before but I have never really used it. I have decided to take notes in both GoBinder and OneNote (2003 and 2007) and figure out which one works best for me and why. After that, I will report my results.

My CS 4001 class is an ethics class and requires us to use a wiki for everything (homework, readings, assignments, postings, etc).

So, at the end of the semester, I will report on my experiences with Wikis, OneNote, and GoBinder. Wish me luck!
