Using MindManager for a GTD-style Brain Dump
Note: This post is from AdminID’s personal blog AdminID.net from Januray. I decided to repost them here because they are relevant.
MindManager has a Brainstorm Mode which is awesome for a GTD “Brain Dump”…
It is under Tools -> Start Brainstorm and basically just creates topics that are not linked together yet. Just keep adding new ideas until you can see your desk again! Much more GTD like than regular mode since you are concentrating solely on creating a list, not jumping from subject to subject and messing with the associations. That is done in the grouping step.
I just consolidated an inch tall stack of Post-It notes into one file. It doesn’t look pretty, but everything is visible and actionable.
I also had a 3 inch stack of paper that is now 1/2 an inch. I created another map that contains references to all the tasks/topics to serve as my reminder page.
Now I can print these out and process them while on vacation. They will be my basis for building out my other maps.
